As a supporter of and advocate for the contributions of America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia to our local community, I’d like to invite you to participate in the sixth annual Georgia Legal Food Frenzy sponsored by the Office of the Attorney General and the Georgia Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division in partnership with the Georgia Food Bank Association. The statewide Legal Food Frenzy is a food and fund drive competition among all Georgia law firms, law schools, courts and legal organizations that has collected more than five million pounds of food in its first five years. The firm or organization that donates the most food this year (based on a per person average – attorneys and staff) will be awarded the highly coveted “Attorney General’s Cup” in addition to other award opportunities.
This competition provides vital food assistance to our neighbors in need in the 21 counties that America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia assists. Nearly 700,000 children in Georgia do not know where there next meal is coming from. Although 60% of children in Georgia’s public schools are eligible for free or reduced lunch, during the summer, less than 15% of those same children have access to lunch programs. This creates a huge demand for the state’s food banks, yet donations to the food banks typically slow in the summer months precisely when the need among these children is greatest. The Legal Food Frenzy is timed to help address this need.
You can help by registering for the Georgia Legal Food Frenzy at galegalfoodfrenzy.org and encouraging all in your office to take part. Registration is open from March 1st-April 16th, and the Legal Food Frenzy competition occurs April 17th-April 28th.
